Professional Competencies

As a member of a professional teaching community, I am required to exemplify proficiency in many competencies.  I am governed by local, state, and national expectations for every aspect of my practice.  Specifically in the state of Virginia I am subject to compliance with the Standards of Learning.  Every lesson that I teach represents various objectives specified by the SOLs for that grade level and subject.  However, the SOLs are suggested guidelines for a bare minimum of achievement.  I expect each of my students to succeed well beyond the bare minimum of comprehension and application.  In the same spirit, I strive to excel beyond the bare minimum of the competencies.  As I continue becoming a teacher I aspire to continually develop and shape my teaching so as to always move towards greater personal and professional success.
